Blue Hoof Pick

A hoof pick earns its keep every day. This one is cast malleable iron with a blue plastic handle, made to work packed mud, gravel and manure out from around the frog and sole.

At 5-1/4 inches long it sits in your hand with enough handle to hold onto when a horse leans on you mid-pick, and it drops into a jean pocket or the barn bucket without getting lost. Keep one at the barn, one in the trailer, one in the tack box.

At a glance

Good to know

• Pick hooves before and after a ride.
• Run a stiff brush over the outside wall after picking to knock off the dirt the pick loosens.
• Rinse the mud off and let it dry before it goes back in the tack box so the iron stays sound.

Toss a spare in the trailer and one in the barn bucket so a dirty hoof never waits on a lost pick.
