A snapped lace leaves you with a boot that will not stay laced until you fix it. These Boot Doctor nylon laces are thick at 5 mm, so they fill the eyelets on work boots and riding boots and hold a knot through a long day of feeding, fencing or riding.

Nylon is a practical choice for everyday wear. It stands up to wet barns and mud, and it dries faster than leather after a rain. A spare set in the truck or tack box turns a broken lace into a two-minute fix instead of a trip to town.

Highlights

  • 5 mm nylon cord that fills boot eyelets
  • Holds a knot through a workday
  • Suits work boots and riding boots
  • Easy swap when a lace wears out
  • Spare set for the truck or tack box

Why nylon laces

Leather laces look good, but they stiffen when they get wet and tend to wear through first at the eyelets. Nylon stays flexible when the weather turns and holds up well where a lace takes the most strain.

A thicker lace fills the eyelets, so the boot stays snug without the loose gap that lets grit in. That is the whole job of a lace: keep the boot closed from the first step to the last.

These suit anyone who laces up boots every day, from the new hand who needs a lace for a fresh pair of work boots to the rider who keeps a backup in the saddle bag.

How to use it

Pick the length that matches your boot before you pull out the old lace. The easiest method is to tie the new lace to the old one and walk it through every eyelet, rather than threading from scratch.

Start at the bottom eyelet and work up, keeping the lace flat in each opening. Tie a double knot so it holds through a day of walking, climbing and riding.

Good to know

Pairing: Pair these with the work boots or riding boots you already own, and keep a bottle of boot conditioner from the boot-care shelf nearby. A fresh lace goes best on a boot that has been cleaned and conditioned.

Fit: Lace length depends on the boot, how many eyelets it has and how you like to tie it. Measure the old lace from tip to tip, or pull it out and use it as your guide, and keep a spare set at that length.

Care: Check the ends where the lace passes through the eyelets, since fraying there is the first sign a lace is about to go. Rinse off mud and let them air dry. Replace a lace as soon as it starts to fray, so the boot does not open up mid-ride.
