More from Weaver Leather

Bridle leather is what a horse's headstall is made of. English bridle leather keeps its strength and beauty for years, so the lead you snap on a puppy is still serviceable when that dog goes gray around the muzzle. For a dog that pulls, a handler working several dogs in a day, or anybody tired of replacing a nylon lead every other season, leather gives you something solid to grip.

Wheat stitching runs the length of it and the hardware is aluminum-finished, so the metal keeps its look. Wet grass, mud, a dunk in the pond: wipe it down and keep going. Clean and condition it once a year and it stays ready for the next walk.

Good to know

  • Wipe off mud with a damp cloth as it dries, then clean and condition once a year or after a soaking to keep the leather supple.
  • Hang it by the handle after a wet walk and let it air out away from direct heat so the leather doesn't stiffen.
  • Go easy on the conditioner. Too much conditioner can weaken the leather.
  • Keep a leash per dog and one in the truck for the unplanned stop.

Leather only gets better with use, so there's no sense waiting for the nylon to wear through.
