Ener-G-Plus 12/10 Low-Starch

Ener-G-Plus is Mid South's low-starch feed for horses that need calories but don't need the buzz that comes with a lot of grain. Fat and fiber carry the energy. Mid South calls it the "safe" and "cool" feed, and it points to hard-keepers and metabolically challenged senior horses first.

• Corn-free, for horses with certain sensitivities.
• Fermentable fiber is a safe, natural, long-lasting form of energy. Low starch and high fat, Mid South says, lower the risk of colic and other digestive disturbances.
• Extrusion is part of the design. Mid South says it promotes digestion and inhibits fermentation, which cuts down on restless, fidgety behavior, and that it improves shelf life. Mid South also claims extrusion raises small-intestine digestion to over 90% and energy by up to 40%.
• Tasco kelp meal is in there for attitude, immune function and hoof quality. Mid South says kelp also eases travel stress and nervousness and helps muscling.
• Antioxidants (vitamins E and C and selenium) support the immune system and, Mid South says, reduce the chance of muscle damage. Proteinate trace minerals support hoof health, immune function, reproduction, skeletal development, wound healing and enzyme activation.
• Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids support the immune system, skin and hair coat, and the feed is formulated for increased stress resistance.
• Bag size is 40 lb.

How much to feed

As a starting guideline, feed ½ to 1 lb per 100 lbs. of body weight per day along with 12-15lbs of good quality hay or pasture per day. Adjust the amount of feed per day to maintain the desired body condition and energy levels. Additionally provide free access to salt and water.
