At a glance

Good to know

• Rinse off sweat and dirt after each ride, then dry the bit with a soft cloth before it goes back in the tack room.
• Check the mouthpiece and rings for nicks or rough spots before you bridle up.

Keep a spare snaffle in the tack trunk so a lost or damaged bit doesn't sideline a schooling day.
