Treat the roper as working equipment

A roper saddle is a working choice, so assess how the seat and stirrups position you before choosing it for its tooling. The rough-out skirt and fenders give you a textured surface to evaluate in person. Sit with the stirrups adjusted and check whether the saddle lets you remain balanced. A familiar seat measurement is useful for comparison, but it is only part of the buying decision.

Check the horse and the stress points

Fit the saddle to the horse with the pad you intend to use. Tree terminology does not make fit identical across different saddles or horses. Keep the sheepskin underside clean and let damp tack dry before storage. Pay particular attention to rigging attachments, worn leather holes and the stirrup hardware during ordinary inspections. Do not carry on using questionable tack while waiting for a more convenient time to repair it.
