Alfalfa Timothy Pellets combine two forages in a dense, quarter-inch pellet. Sun-cured alfalfa brings leaf and stem into the blend alongside timothy grass. The result is a forage option for growing horses, hard keepers and horses in regular work.
Pellets are easy to weigh into a daily ration. They can also be soaked for horses with dental issues or aggressive eating habits. Keep some long-stem forage in the feeding program. The full feeding directions below cover the amount to feed and how to make the change from existing hay.

Feeding instructions
Forage is the most important component of a horse’s diet and should be fed at a rate of 1.5-2.5% of a horse’s body weight. Gradually replace existing hay with Standlee over a seven to fourteen (7-14) day period.
Calculation example
Horse Weight 1200 lbs × 2% Target Feeding Rate 0.02 = Forage Recommendation 24 lbs Per Day
Animal feeding instructions
| Animal | Target feeding rate (% of body weight to feed per day) | Feeding change timeframe (Duration to transition to feeding change) |
|---|
| Donkey | MAX 1.5% | 7-14 Days (Gradually replace existing hay) |
| Goat | MAX 4% | 7-14 Days (Gradually replace existing hay) |
| Llama | MAX 2% | 7-14 Days (Gradually replace existing hay) |
Animal Weight x Target Feeding Rate = Daily Forage Recommendation
Feeding recommendations
For increased hydration, aggressive eaters, or horses with dental issues, pellets are recommended to be fed wet, soaked in water (2 parts water to 1 part pellets) for 30 min. or until properly softened.
Standlee recommends that pelleted forage is not the sole source of forage for horses since feeding some long-stem forage may help eliminate boredom and prevent stall vices. If you have questions, contact the nutritionists at Standlee or consult your veterinarian.
NEVER FEED MOLDY OR INSECT INFESTED FORAGE TO ANIMALS.
Storage and shelf life
Forages can last for well over a year if stored properly. To maintain product quality and ensure safety, store product in a covered, cool, and well-ventilated environment out of the effects of the weather.
Forage is a natural agriculture product. Despite the use of modern processing equipment, it is not always possible to remove all foreign materials. Sort and remove any foreign materials prior to feeding.
DISCARD ANY SOILED OR WET FORAGE IMMEDIATELY.
