A hand-woven mohair roper cinch with Jeremiah Watt stainless steel hardware for a Western saddle setup.
A woven roper cinch
This Western roper cinch has a hand-woven body of 27 strands of 100% mohair. Mohair gives under movement and springs back toward its starting shape, so the cinch can flex as the horse breathes. The roper style uses the saddle’s cinch rigging and connects with the near-side latigo. Choose it as a working part of the saddle setup, with the length selected for the horse and saddle rather than by appearance alone.
Measure before choosing
For a starting measurement, place the saddle on the horse and measure underneath from one saddle D-ring to the opposite D-ring. Subtract 16 inches from that figure. The resulting estimate leaves about eight inches between each saddle D-ring and cinch ring when fitted. Compare the estimate with the actual position of the rings and the usable latigo on the saddle. If an existing cinch fits well, measure it buckle to buckle as a second reference. The goal is enough reach to secure the saddle without excessive strap gathering under the rider’s leg.
Settle the saddle in stages
Lay the pad smooth, position the saddle, then tighten the cinch in gradual steps. A sudden hard pull can make a horse brace and does not show how the saddle settles after movement. Keep the woven body flat beneath the horse and check for twists before tightening further. Walk the horse briefly, then recheck the saddle before mounting. This second look catches a change in tension after the animal moves. Confirm the near-side latigo is secure and that the offside ring and buckle sit correctly.
Good to know
The cinch combines the 27-strand mohair body with stainless steel Jeremiah Watt hardware. The hardware carries engraved floral detail and black accents, while Sunset harness leather finishes the connection points. These visible materials help identify the selected style when comparing replacement tack. At routine checks, look where the leather meets the woven body and where stitching bears tension. A loose seam or damaged connection is a reason to take the cinch out of service until it is repaired or replaced.

Directions for use
With the saddle on the horse, measure from one saddle D-ring under the horse to the opposite D-ring, then subtract 16 inches for an estimate. Aim for about 8 inches from each saddle D-ring to the cinch ring. Adjust gradually and recheck fit after walking the horse.
