Weaver Leather ladies’ P.O.W. Spurs in stainless steel, with a 3/4 in shank and 3/8 in heel band.
A short shank and narrow band
This Weaver Leather ladies' P.O.W. spur style uses stainless steel, with a 3/4-inch shank and a 3/8-inch band. The shank extends behind the heel band; the band sits around the boot heel. Compare those dimensions with the rider’s existing spur setup and boot before replacing a familiar setup. The model is identified by its short shank and narrow band, not by the ladies' label alone.
Fit the spur to the boot
For a correctly fitted spur, the band should rest near the top of the boot heel without rocking or sliding down. Set the shank level or slightly downward, with its point facing back. The spur strap buckle goes on the outside of the boot. If the band shifts during a walk, fix its position before mounting. The 3/4-inch shank is a fixed reach, so consider the rider’s leg position and the horse’s response instead of assuming a longer spur will solve an aid problem.
Use only when the rider can control the aid
A spur refines a leg aid. It does not replace a balanced seat, a quiet lower leg or clear instruction. Riders should be able to ride without constant spur contact before choosing to wear one. An instructor can help decide whether this style fits the rider’s experience and the horse’s training. The plain fixed-shank form has no rowel or rotating ball; choose it only if that is the style required for the rider’s discipline and use.
Keep the metal clean and check its position
The horse must be comfortable with the aid. Watch for tension, reluctance or a changed response, and stop using the aid if the horse shows discomfort. A spur should not be used to punish a horse or make it go faster. Event rules differ, including which designs and shank lengths are permitted. Check the current rulebook before competition. The stated shank length helps with that comparison, but it does not establish that every organization allows this design.
Good to know
After riding, wipe the stainless-steel surfaces and dry them before storage. Check the metalwork for a bent band, rough edge or loose strap before the next use. Remove spurs when dismounted; metalwork can catch while leading or handling a horse. Store the metal separately from any strap. This keeps the leather separate for cleaning and makes it easier to inspect each spur before the equipment goes back on the boot.

Directions for use

- Position the band with the shank horizontal to the ground or pointing downward. Place the spur-strap buckle on the outside of the boot, with the loose strap end pointing down.
- Use spurs only as a precise refinement of a leg aid, with a stable lower leg and appropriate instruction. Check the rules for the riding discipline.
- Remove the spur when dismounted. Clean and dry its metal parts after use. Store it with the strap removed.
Cautions
Use only when the rider can control the aid and the horse is comfortable with it. Incorrect or excessive use can cause discomfort, bruising or injury. Do not use spurs to punish a horse or make it go faster. Remove them if the horse shows discomfort. Check the spur and its fit before riding.
