Quail and other small birds need a waterer sized for them. This base has a narrow channel designed specifically for smaller birds, and it fits the Little Giant 1-quart plastic screw-on poultry waterer jar, Item No. 690, sold separately. It's made of heavy-duty polystyrene and measures 4 inches across and 1.25 inches high, so it sits low where small birds can reach it.
The narrow channel is the point. A small bird can drink from it without climbing into deeper water, and a compact base takes up little room in a small pen or run. Pair it with the matching jar and you have a complete watering station for smaller birds.

Why small birds need their own base
Small birds can drown in deep water, which is why a narrow channel matters. A base made for them keeps the drink easy to reach without wading in, and the water sits where a small bird can get to it safely.
A quart holds only a small amount of water, so the jar needs topping off more often than a big waterer. Keep an eye on the level, and the base will keep the water flowing where the birds can reach it.
Who it suits: quail keepers, anyone with a small-bird run or pen, and keepers who want a jar-and-base setup in a compact size.

How to use it
The jar holds the water and the base delivers it, so set up both together.
- Fill the 1-quart jar with fresh water.
- Screw the jar onto the base, and turn the assembly over so the water flows into the base.
- Set it on level ground in the pen, and refill the jar before it runs out.
Good to know
- Check the water often in hot weather, since a quart holds only a small amount.
- Keep the base clean. Scrub out droppings and debris before each fill.
- Empty the jar and rinse it before a fresh fill, so the water stays fresh.
- The base is molded in red, the color that draws small birds in to drink.
