Give baby chicks and small birds easy access to water from the start. This base screws onto the matching 1-quart Little Giant jar, sold separately, and together they make a gravity-feed waterer. The water sits in the jar and feeds into the base as the birds drink, so the base stays topped up without you hovering over it.
The base is made of heavy-duty polystyrene and measures 6 inches across and 1.5 inches high. That low, wide shape gives the waterer a steady footprint and a shallow drinking spot the chicks can reach easily. It is made in the USA.

Why a gravity waterer suits chicks
Chicks drink often, and they can drown in a deep dish of water. A shallow base keeps the water at a safe, easy depth, and a gravity jar means you fill once instead of checking a bowl every hour. In a brooder, that is a common setup: easy water that stays in one place.
A quart-size waterer is the right scale for a small brood. It is light enough to lift out and clean when the brooder needs a scrub, and the low base means the chicks never have to climb to reach the water.
It suits a backyard flock keeper starting chicks in a box, a 4-H family with a small brood, or anyone raising quail or other small birds who needs a waterer that stays put. Keep the water fresh, and the waterer keeps doing its job.

How to use it
Assemble it in a minute, then fill it and place it.
- Fill the 1-quart jar with fresh water.
- Screw the base onto the jar until it sits snug.
- Turn the assembly over and set it on level, dry footing in the brooder.
- Place it away from the feeder so the chicks do not kick feed or bedding into the water.
- Check the level each day, refill the jar and wash the base with warm soapy water as needed.
Good to know
- The matching 1-quart jar is sold separately, so have one on hand before you set up.
- Keep the waterer out of direct sun, which slows algae growth in the water.
- As the flock grows, step up to a larger waterer.
Scrub the base and jar at least weekly with warm soapy water, rinse well and let them dry before refilling. Clean equipment is the easy habit that keeps a brooder manageable.
