Decker Extra Soft Brush

Every grooming kit needs one brush that is all finish and no fuss. This is that brush. The synthetic bristles are extra soft, so you can work over the face, ears, throatlatch and the thin skin on flanks and legs without your horse flinching away from you.

Use it as the last pass after you curry, or on its own for a quick dust-off before you saddle up. Bristles are trimmed to 2 inches, and the synthetic block measures 8-1/2 inches long by 2-3/8 inches wide, so it sits comfortably in your hand and slides into a bucket pocket. Keep one in the trailer for show-day touch-ups and one in the barn.

At a glance

Good to know

• Work with the grain in short, light strokes, and let the bristles do the work instead of pressing down.
• Wash with mild soap, rinse clean and set it bristle-down to dry so the block keeps its shape.
• Keep a second one in the trailer or show box for touch-ups right before you go in the ring.
• Bring it out after a curry to lift the dust a curry comb loosens.

Toss one in the grooming bucket so it's there on show morning.
