Use the barrel seat to assess balance

This barrel saddle combines a rough-out surface with a padded seat. Those are details you can feel when you sit in it. Set the stirrups for your leg, then check how naturally you can maintain a balanced riding position. The horn and stirrup trim may draw your eye first, but the working fit matters through every turn and every ordinary schooling ride before competition.

Check the tack before it goes on

Fit the saddle to the individual horse with the intended pad, rather than selecting it from seat dimensions alone. Clear dirt and dried sweat from the underside and keep the pad clean. Inspect the rigging and stirrup leathers as part of saddling, not only when a part feels loose. Care for rough-out and finished areas appropriately instead of soaking the whole saddle in oil. Allow damp tack to dry naturally away from heat.
