Suede Covered Barrel Rein, Turquoise

For barrel racing, gymkhana or any speed event where sweaty hands show up, these reins give you something to hold onto. The 36-inch suede center sits where your hands work and adds friction when leather gets slick, so the rein stays put through a hard turn. Russet harness leather is stuffed with tallows to stay supple through sweat and rain instead of drying stiff.

The 5/8 inch by 8 foot length gives you standard slack for full extension, and nickel-plated Conway buckles at both ends let you set the feel you like. A scissor snap clips to the bit in a hurry, and the single-loop design keeps a rein in your hand if the run gets rough.

At a glance

Good to know

• Wipe sweat and dirt off the leather after a ride, then let it air dry away from direct heat so it stays supple.
• Check the Conway buckles and scissor snap before you walk into the gate.
• Keep a spare set in the trailer so a slick or broken rein doesn't sideline a run.

Have a set rigged before the next jackpot so your hands are ready when the gate opens.
