More from VetRx

Rabbit keepers reach for a simple liquid when a nose, a set of ears or a rabbit's appetite needs attention. VetRx Rabbit Aid is 100% all-natural and is used to promote healthy upper respiratory function. It is made for commercial, hobby and show rabbits alike.

The routine is easy to follow: warm the bottle, test the temperature and apply it by the drop or with a Q-tip. The oily film it leaves on skin and fur will not burn the skin or remove hair, and the job is simple enough for young rabbit keepers with adult supervision.

Highlights

  • 100% all-natural
  • Used to promote healthy upper respiratory function
  • Made for commercial, hobby and show rabbits
  • Helps keep ears clear and clean
  • Applied by the drop or with a Q-tip swab
  • Simple enough for young rabbit keepers with adult supervision

What it's for

A rabbit with a crusted nose or scabs in the ear is uncomfortable, and a warmed liquid applied with a drop or a swab is easy to handle on a rabbit that is not sure about you yet. Keeping one bottle in the barn means the routine is ready before the problem gets worse.

A breeder with a dozen does and a child with one pet rabbit can use the same routine. A show rabbit that has been around a crowd often needs a few days apart from the rest of the hutch, and the aid fits right into that plan.

Who it suits: a first-time rabbit keeper who wants one simple thing on the shelf, and an experienced breeder who likes to catch ear and nose trouble early.

How to use it

Warm the bottle before use, then apply it:

  1. Shake the bottle well to mix the contents.
  2. Open the cap and set the bottle in a small pan of water. Heat at medium temperature.
  3. Test the temperature of the product before applying.
  4. Place 2 drops of warm product on each side of the nostrils and on any scabbed area. Repeat two or three times per day as needed.
  5. For the ears, dampen the inside of the ear, then apply by the drop or with a Q-tip swab.
  6. Do not dig off the scabs. After 24 hours, dampen the area again, and repeat after 36 hours.
  7. Wait three more days, then add two drops into the ears. If scabs remain, use a damp Q-tip to gently remove the remaining scales and crust.
  8. For the drinking water, add 8 drops per gallon of clean drinking water.

Expect an oily film on skin and fur. It will not burn the skin or remove hair.

Good to know

  • Keep sick rabbits isolated, clean hutches and nest boxes, and keep rabbits as clean and dry as possible, away from drafts.
  • After a show, give a rabbit a few days apart from the others before it rejoins the herd.
  • Warm the bottle in a pan of water and test it before it touches the rabbit.
  • Keep one bottle in the barn and one in the show box so the routine is never missed.
