A rope gag bridle with a sliding stainless bit and a 5-inch sweet-iron copper roller mouth.
A bridle built around a sliding bit
This Weaver Equine gag bridle combines 3/8-inch nylon rope cheek pieces with a stainless-steel sliding bit. Its mouthpiece measures 5 inches and uses sweet iron with a copper roller. A stitched burgundy latigo leather earpiece finishes the headstall, and rein rings are part of the assembly. The rope, leather and metal pieces make this a complete headstall-and-bit setup, rather than a replacement mouthpiece alone.
Know what gag action means
A gag bit moves along the cheek pieces when rein pressure is applied. That sliding action changes how the mouthpiece acts compared with a fixed cheek or a direct-pull snaffle. Gag bits are combination designs because their action does not fit neatly into the simple snaffle-versus-curb distinction. In some disciplines they are used for turning maneuvers. The horse’s training and the rider’s handling matter as much as the hardware.
Fit the whole headstall
Check that the earpiece and cheek pieces sit comfortably and that the mouthpiece rests at the corners without pinching. A bit that is too narrow can press the lips; excess width can let it shift. The mouthpiece is 5 inches wide. Measure the individual horse and adjust the bridle on its head before adding rein pressure.
Materials with different jobs
The mouthpiece combines sweet iron with a copper roller, while the sliding cheek hardware is stainless steel. Sweet iron is not the same as a solid copper mouth. Material is one part of bit selection; the moving gag action and the horse’s fit still matter.
Good to know
Choose this style when a trained horse and rider are already working with a gag’s sliding action. It is a poor match for someone who expects a fixed, direct-pull mouthpiece. Ask a knowledgeable trainer or equine professional to help select and fit it if you are changing bit styles. Check rope stitching, the leather earpiece, rein rings and sliding hardware before each ride. Stop using the bridle if a component is frayed, cracked or rough where it contacts the horse.

Cautions
Gag action can change the pressure and position of the mouthpiece as the reins are used. Select and fit this style with appropriate training and guidance from an experienced equine professional.
