Stretch body with mesh panels

This Weaver fly mask uses lightweight, stretchy spandex with fine mesh around the eye and ear openings. The mesh is the working surface where coverage and visibility meet: check that it sits in place without folding over the horse’s eyes. Bound edges finish the mask and help it follow the head rather than leaving raw fabric at the openings. It is intended as a barrier against flying insects around those covered areas, while the open mesh lets the horse see through the eye panels. The fabric and panel layout make this a close-fitting mask, not a rigid face shield.

Choose the stocked size

The two stocked options are different variants. The Gray mask is Large; the Rainbow mask is Medium. Use the size that fits the individual horse, not the color as a sizing cue. A well-positioned mask should sit evenly around the face, with the mesh clear of the eye surface and the ear sections lying smoothly. If you are replacing a mask, compare its size label and how it sits on this horse. Head shape and coat can change how a stretchy garment settles, so check the actual fit instead of assuming another horse’s size will transfer.

Check the openings before turnout

Before putting the mask on, spread it gently and look for stretched seams, small tears, or mesh pulled away from its binding. Once fitted, check that the eye panel is centered and both ears pass through without bunching. Watch the horse move its head and look around; a mask that has shifted should be repositioned before the horse is turned out. The mesh is designed to preserve visibility, so keep it clean enough to see through and replace the mask if damage opens a gap or distorts the viewing area.

Good to know

The body covers the muzzle while leaving the nostrils uncovered; it does not add a mesh nose panel. That distinction matters if you are comparing this style with masks that place mesh across the nose. The eye and ear openings use separate mesh panels, while the surrounding spandex forms the face covering. Before turnout, check that the fabric remains clear of the nostrils and that the eye mesh is not touching the eyes. If nose coverage is the priority, choose a style made for that area.
