A horse that worked hard yesterday will tell you about it this morning. Rub this liniment into sore muscles and stiff joints after the work, and keep it in the barn for the days a horse comes in tight.

The same bottle covers the skin and hoof trouble that comes with wet Florida weather, from rain rot and scratches to summer itch, thrush and white line disease. Diluted with vinegar and water, it also makes a cool-down wash after a hot ride.

Highlights

  • Helps relieve muscular and joint soreness, swelling and stiffness
  • Soothes tissue pain and swelling caused by arthritis
  • Disinfects rain rot, scratches and summer itch
  • Targets and treats thrush, white line disease and other hoof infections
  • Diluted wash for a cool-down after a hot ride
  • Original product on the market since 1892

Why keep a liniment in the barn

Liniment is the rub you reach for after a hard day, and it's a staple for the horse that works. A bottle at the wash rack and one in the trailer means a sore back gets attention the same day, before it stiffens up overnight.

It suits the trail horse, the barrel horse, the older horse with arthritis, or the Florida horse that stays wet through the rainy season. The wash mix is a quick way to rinse sweat and mud off after a ride, and the same bottle handles the skin and hoof problems that show up in wet weather.

How to use it

Rub it in for soreness, or dilute it for a wash.

  1. Legs and joints: rub the liquid into sore areas two or more times a day.
  2. Arthritis: rub it into stiff joints after the work.
  3. Muscle soreness: apply to the affected areas and cover with a blanket.
  4. Body wash: mix 4 oz. of Absorbine and 8 oz. of vinegar with 24 oz. of water, then sponge the mixture over the horse.
  5. Hooves: apply once a week to help prevent bacterial and fungal infections. Use daily to treat abscesses, cracks, delamination, thrush and white line disease.
  6. Skin: apply to the infected area three times a week to clean and treat rain rot, scratches, summer itch and tail itch.

Good to know

  • Clean a rain rot patch before you treat it. Rinse it, let it dry, then apply, so the liniment reaches the skin.
  • Work it into stiff joints after the work.
  • For a hoof abscess, a deep crack or a horse that's lame, call your veterinarian. Liniment doesn't replace a vet for those.
  • Mix the wash fresh each time, and keep the bottle capped in the heat.

Cautions

Caution: Keep out of the reach of children. Replace cap firmly. For external use on livestock only. Avoid contact with eyes or mucous membranes. Do not apply to irritated skin. If excessive irritation develops, discontinue use and consult a veterinarian. In long standing cases or those not responding to treatment, or in case of puncture or deep wounds, consult a veterinarian. If you rub, don't wrap.

Danger: Extremely flammable. Keep away from fire, sparks and heated surfaces.

Stock a bottle before the next hard ride, so soreness gets handled the same day.
