A compact, camouflaged trail camera for recording game activity with still photos or video with sound.
Watch a trail without sitting on it
A trail camera gives you a record of movement at a crossing, feed site or travel corridor while you are away. This Strike Force model takes 20 MP still images and records 1600 × 900 HD+ video with sound. Choose a place where animal movement is predictable, then frame the approach rather than a broad patch of brush. A tighter view helps you understand where an animal entered and which way it moved. Use the camera for wildlife scouting and land observation, not as a substitute for checking fences or inspecting livestock in person.
Tune the night flash to the location
The camera offers adjustable infrared illumination with Power Save, Long Range and Fast Motion settings. That lets you match the flash mode to the distance and movement you expect. A wide, open lane may call for a different setting than a narrow trail close to the camera. Illuma-Smart adjusts infrared output, while the selectable modes provide another control when you set up a new location. Keep the lens clear of leaves and branches that can move in front of the sensor, and revisit the frame after mounting so the camera is not pointed at a nearby trunk.
Use the capture controls deliberately
Motion detection can be adjusted up to 80 feet. Trigger speed adjusts down to 0.135 seconds, with a 0.5-second recovery time. Those controls matter when deciding whether to capture a brief crossing or wait between events. Video clips can run from 5 seconds to 2 minutes; night video is limited to 20 seconds. Smart IR daytime video can run up to 5 minutes. Multi-shot and Rapid Fire modes can record up to eight images per trigger. More captures can help with a moving subject, but they also fill storage sooner. Start with a modest delay and burst setting, then review sample images before leaving the camera out for a longer interval.
Plan storage and power before mounting
The camera uses six AA batteries, which are not included, or can run from an external 12-volt power source. It accepts SDXC memory cards up to 512 GB, also sold separately. Check battery type and card capacity before heading to a remote site; the camera cannot save useful footage when either power or storage runs out. The SD card management feature can overwrite older files when enabled, so decide whether you want the unit to keep recording or preserve a finite set of images. Label cards by location if you rotate cameras among several trails.
Frame the site for useful records
A trail camera is most useful when its view answers a specific question. Aim across a crossing to capture direction of travel, or toward a site where you need to compare activity over several days. The programmable delay ranges from one second to 60 minutes, so you can space captures when repeated motion would create a large file set. Timelapse Plus adds scheduled images alongside infrared-triggered captures. The information bar can stamp time, date, temperature, moon phase and camera ID on pictures. Use the camera ID if you operate several units, and keep the mounted unit stable so changes in framing do not undermine comparisons.
