Ready-to-use drench for sheep

Cydectin Oral Drench is a ready-to-use moxidectin solution supplied in a one-liter bottle. It is labeled for oral administration to sheep and contains 1 mg of moxidectin per milliliter, or 0.1%. The label dose is measured by body weight, at 1 mL for each 11 lb (5 kg). A standard drenching gun or syringe can deliver the measured volume. Check the equipment and dose setting before starting, and use each animal's current weight rather than an old estimate. The bottle is a supply of liquid for multiple animals; it is not one dose for one sheep. Keep the bottle and measuring equipment clean while preparing the flock so the solution is not contaminated. Do not dilute or mix this product with another treatment before administration. The label lists treatment and control of specific adult and fourth-stage larval internal parasites in sheep, including barber-pole worm (Haemonchus contortus), Teladorsagia, Trichostrongylus, Cooperia, Oesophagostomum, and Nematodirus species. This gives flock keepers a precise indication list to discuss with a veterinarian when choosing a dewormer. It does not mean that every parasite on a farm is susceptible or that the product should be used without a diagnosis. Resistance can develop with any dewormer. The label recommends diagnostic testing and monitoring treatment effectiveness as part of parasite management. This is especially useful when a flock has had repeated treatments or when expected results are not seen. Do not give this sheep product to dogs or other species. Severe adverse reactions, including fatalities in dogs, can result. It is also not labeled for sick, debilitated, or underweight sheep. Treated sheep must not be slaughtered for human consumption within seven days. The label says that a withholding time in milk has not been established, so do not use it in female sheep providing milk for human consumption. These restrictions should be considered before the treatment date, especially when animals are being prepared for market. The label also states that moxidectin can adversely affect fish and certain aquatic organisms. Avoid direct water contamination and dispose of containers properly. Store the bottle at or below 77°F (25°C), protected from light. Keep it away from children and do not use it in humans. Before buying, confirm that sheep are the intended species, the parasite target fits the current plan, and the flock can meet the slaughter and milk restrictions. The one-liter size is useful when treating a group, but the amount needed depends on each animal's measured weight and the number of animals in the flock. Keep the original package label available throughout treatment.

HUMAN WARNINGS: Not for use in humans. Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children. Questions/Comments? For product questions, to report side effects, or for a copy of the Safety Data Sheet (SDS), contact Elanco Product & Veterinary Support at 1-800-428-4441. For additional information about reporting side effects for animal drugs, contact FDA at 1-888-FDA-VETS or http://www.fda.gov/reportanimalae RESIDUE WARNINGS: Sheep must not be slaughtered for human consumption within 7 days of treatment. Because a withholding time in milk has not been established for this product, do not use in female sheep providing milk for human consumption. ENVIRONMENTAL WARNINGS: Studies indicate that when moxidectin comes in contact with the soil, it readily and tightly binds to the soil and becomes inactive. Free moxidectin may adversely affect fish and certain aquatic organisms. Do not contaminate water by direct application or by improper disposal of drug containers. ANIMAL SAFETY WARNINGS: CYDECTIN Oral Drench for Sheep has been formulated specifically for oral use in sheep and should not be given by any other route of administration. Do not use in sick, debilitated, or underweight animals. This product should not be used in other animal species as severe adverse reactions, including fatalities in dogs, may result. OTHER WARNINGS: • Parasite resistance may develop to any dewormer, and has been reported for most classes of dewormers. • Treatment with a dewormer used in conjunction with parasite management practices appropriate to the geographic area and the animal(s) to be treated may slow the development of parasite resistance. • Fecal examinations or other diagnostic tests and parasite management history should be used to determine if the product is appropriate for the herd/flock, prior to the use of any dewormer. Following the use of any dewormer, effectiveness of treatment should be monitored (for example, with the use of a fecal egg count reduction test or another appropriate method). • A decrease in a drug's effectiveness over time as calculated by fecal egg count reduction tests may indicate the development of resistance to the dewormer administered. Your parasite management plan should be adjusted accordingly based on regular monitoring. • Macrocyclic lactones provide prolonged drug exposure that may increase selection pressure for resistant parasites. This effect may be more pronounced in extended-release formulations. ANIMAL SAFETY: A well-controlled U.S. study has demonstrated an adequate margin of safety to allow treatment of sheep four months of age and older with CYDECTIN Oral Drench. In this study no signs of toxicity were seen in sheep given up to 5 times the recommended dose. Reproductive safety studies evaluating the use of CYDECTIN Oral Drench in breeding ewes and rams have not been conducted in the U.S. STORAGE: Store product at or below 77˚F (25˚C). Protect from light. DISPOSAL: Do not contaminate water by direct application or by improper disposal of drug containers. Dispose of containers in an approved landfill or by incineration. RESTRICTED DRUG (CA) - USE ONLY AS DIRECTED.
