A push garden seeder with interchangeable seed plates, adjustable planting depth and a row marker.
Plant a row while you walk
EarthWay Precision Garden Seeder meters seed as you push it through well-tilled soil. A seed plate inside the hopper picks up seed and directs it into the planting furrow. The ground opener sets the depth, and the cover chain follows behind. This makes the seeder useful for a garden laid out in rows, where you want a repeatable planting process rather than placing every seed by hand.
Test the seed plate first
Choose a plate for the size and shape of the seed you are planting. Test it with the actual seed before starting the row. Seed that has a different shape from the example crop may need a different plate. Empty the hopper completely before changing plates. Hold the pulley and belt still, turn the plate in its marked OFF direction, then push it off the hub through the opening above the pulley.
Set the plate and planting depth
Hold the new plate at an angle with its bottom against the straight hopper wall. Align the slots and rotate in the marked ON direction until it locks. Do not force it. Add seed without filling above the center of the plate. Adjust the ground opener below the hopper to the required planting depth, tighten its wing nut and check that depth after moving a short distance through soft soil.
Mark the next row as you plant
Lay out the first row with string and stakes. Lower the row marker and set it for the spacing you want before beginning the pass. Lift the kickstand over the front wheel and make sure the cover chain follows the ground opener. If only a little seed remains, tilting the seeder slightly to the right while moving can help the plate pick it up. Some small seed may remain at the bottom.
Clean out between jobs
Lower the kickstand and tip the seeder forward to empty remaining seed. Wipe residue out of the hopper after use, including dust or seed-treatment material. Buildup can make the plate stick or interfere with seed placement. Clean and dry the seeder before storage. If static interferes with fine seed, wash the hopper and plate with mild dishwashing detergent and allow them to dry.
