More from Zoetis

Vaccination is a planning job more than a one-time shot, and Fluvac Innovator is built for a horse you want on a steady schedule. Fluvac Innovator 5 is for vaccination of healthy horses 10 months of age or older against equine encephalomyelitis due to Eastern and Western viruses, equine rhinopneumonitis due to type 1 and 4 viruses, equine influenza due to type A2 viruses, and tetanus. Fluvac Innovator EHV-4/1 is for healthy horses 10 months of age or older against equine rhinopneumonitis caused by type 1 and 4 viruses and equine influenza caused by type A2. Flu spreads where horses gather, so a horse on a vaccination plan is ready before it meets the crowd at trailer trips, clinics and show grounds.

This is a killed-virus vaccine. Each vial holds 1 mL, and it is given as an intramuscular injection after the vial is shaken well. Healthy horses receive two doses 3 to 4 weeks apart, and your veterinarian can advise on revaccination and on timing around stress or exposure.

Highlights

  • Killed-virus vaccine
  • Indicated for healthy horses 10 months and older
  • Equine influenza type A2 and rhinopneumonitis types 1 and 4, plus Eastern and Western encephalomyelitis and tetanus in Fluvac Innovator 5
  • 1 mL dose given intramuscularly
  • Two doses 3 to 4 weeks apart for healthy horses

Why plan your flu vaccine ahead

Equine influenza moves fast through barns, trailers and show grounds, and a horse can pick it up from a neighbor's horse as easily as from its own pen. Planning the vaccine around your season, the spring trail rides, the summer shows and the fall haul, keeps the calendar honest. The horse this vaccine suits is a healthy one, 10 months old or older, on a schedule your vet has set.

Who it suits: owners of riding horses who travel, boarding barns with steady traffic, and breeders who want young horses on a plan from 10 months on.

How to use it

Shake well before drawing the dose, and use the entire contents once the vial is first opened.

  1. Aseptically administer 1 mL intramuscularly, with a clean needle and syringe for each horse.
  2. Healthy horses should receive two doses, given 3 to 4 weeks apart.
  3. For advice on revaccination frequency, or during stress or exposure, contact your veterinarian.
  4. Write the lot number and date on each horse's vaccination record.

Good to know

  • Vaccines must stay cold, so we don't ship them. Pick yours up at the store in Baker.
  • Refrigerate it, do not freeze it, and keep it out of sunlight until you use it.
  • On the trip home, use a cooler with a cold pack wrapped so the vial does not sit directly on ice.
  • Set the second dose on the calendar the day you give the first, so the 3 to 4 week window is never missed.
