Feed, seed and pet food left open in the barn go stale, pick up damp air and draw pests. This lid closes that gap. It fits the Little Giant galvanized garbage can made for the job, so the can you already use gets a tight top that keeps your feed fresh and free from pests.
The lid is heavy-duty galvanized metal, so it stands up to barn life. The galvanizing resists rust and corrosion, and the metal handle on top lets you lift the lid for a scoop and drop it back into place in seconds.
It suits a barn, feed room, tack room or back porch where you keep a few days of feed close at hand. If you buy feed by the sack, a lid on a can gives you one clean place to store it between feedings.

Why a lid matters on a feed can
An open can is an invitation. Rodents find loose feed fast, birds pick at whatever they can reach, and rain or humid air gets into feed that sits uncovered. Damp feed clumps and can go moldy, and then the animals turn their noses up at it. A close-fitting lid takes care of most of that before it starts.
Galvanized steel is the right material for a feed can. The zinc coating resists rust, and the metal holds its shape when a feed scoop, a dog or a wheelbarrow handle bumps into it. Plastic can crack in cold weather, while a metal rim keeps its shape year after year.

How to use it
Set the can on a dry, level spot away from the wall and off damp ground, since moisture can work into feed that sits against it. Pour the feed in, then press the lid down until it sits all the way around the rim.
Lift it by the top handle when you need a scoop, and set it back on right away. Keeping the lid on between feedings is the simplest way to keep feed fresh.
To clean the can, wipe the outside with a damp cloth and rinse out any spilled feed before it dries onto the metal. Let it air dry before you refill it.
Good to know
- The can is sold separately, so match the lid to the galvanized can of the same size before you order.
- Hang a feed scoop on a hook beside the can, so nobody reaches into the feed with a dirty hand.
- Keep pet food in its own can, so the smell and crumbs stay separate from livestock feed.
- Check the rim every so often. A bent rim is the first place a lid starts to rattle loose.
- Replace the lid when rust eats through the galvanizing or the rim is bent so it no longer seats.
