Pinkeye moves through a herd fast, so a vaccine belongs on the plan before the season gets busy. OCU-GUARD MB-1 is a single-dose vaccine for healthy cattle 2 months of age or older. It is intended for pinkeye caused by Moraxella bovis, and it carries a four-month duration of immunity.
The vaccine includes eight Moraxella bovis isolates. Each dose is 2 mL, given under the skin (subcutaneous), and the dosage and administration follow BQA guidelines. One dose per animal keeps the plan simple. Vaccinate the healthy cattle on your schedule, record the date and lot number, and you have a clear record for the next round.

Why choose a pinkeye vaccine for the herd
Pinkeye costs a herd time and weight. An animal that can't see well can't graze well, and a damaged eye can scar. Vaccination puts the plan in place before flies and dust arrive, which is when most herds see the trouble start.
Choose a vaccine like this when you run cattle on pasture, when you bring in new animals, or when you have had pinkeye in the herd before. It suits the cow-calf operation, the small herd on a few acres, and the backyard beef family with a few head.

How to use it
For healthy cattle two months of age or older:
- Mix well, then give a single 2 mL dose subcutaneously before the onset of pinkeye season.
- Use a clean needle and syringe for each animal.
- Use the entire contents once the bottle has been opened.
- Keep the vaccine refrigerated between 35 and 46 F (2 to 8 C) and never let it freeze.
- Ask your veterinarian or the manufacturer about revaccination.
Good to know
- Vaccines must stay cold, so we don't ship them. Pick yours up at the store in Baker.
- Refrigerate the vaccine, don't freeze it, and keep it out of direct sunlight.
- Keep it in a cooler on the drive home, away from direct sun and from frozen packs.
- Record each lot number with the date and the animals you treated, so the next round of records is easy to check.
- Pair it with fly control and a clean pen, since pinkeye and flies travel together.
