A deep, dry bed is the difference between a stall that smells all day and one that stays fresh between cleanings. Suncoast large-flake pine shavings give you that bed. The big flakes build a cushioned layer under your animal, and the pure pine soaks up moisture so the bedding stays drier longer. The scent is a fresh, natural pine, not a perfume.

The bale is compressed, so it's convenient to haul and easy to store, and it expands once you break it open. Fluff it into the stall, add more as the bed packs down, and pull the wet spots out each day. It's a simple, dependable bedding for a horse stall or a small pen, and it's easy to keep on hand.

Highlights

  • Large pine flakes for cushioning
  • Pure pine for absorbency
  • Helps keep the bed drier
  • Fresh natural pine scent
  • Convenient, lightweight compressed bale
  • Expands when opened

Why choose large flake pine

Flake size matters more than most buyers think. Fine shavings pack down tight and turn to a mat when they get wet. Large flakes stay loose and springy, so the bed keeps some air in it and the animal settles in rather than lying on a hard floor. That cushion is the reason to pick large flake for a horse that lies down a lot or a stall with heavy traffic.

Pine is a familiar choice for good reason. It's a natural material, it absorbs moisture well, and it gives a stall a clean smell that's easy to live with. Pine suits a stall that gets mucked every day, a run-in shed that needs a dry base, or a pen where a dry bed matters more than anything else.

It's also the right pick for a wet week. Keep a bale or two in the barn so you can top off the bed before the stall gets soggy, not after.

How to use it

Open the bale in a dry spot and fluff the shavings until they're light and loose. Spread them edge to edge, and build the bed deeper where your animal lies down.

  1. Open and fluff. Break the bale apart and fluff the shavings by hand or with a fork until they're light.
  2. Spread evenly. Cover the floor from wall to wall, with extra depth in the lying area for cushion.
  3. Clean daily. Pull out wet and soiled shavings each day, then top off with fresh ones so the bed stays dry and deep.
  4. Store dry. Keep unused bales off the ground and out of the rain so the shavings stay dry and loose.

Good to know

  • A good stall fork and a wheelbarrow make the daily clean-out quicker.
  • Stack spare bales on pallets or off the ground in a dry corner of the barn.
  • Every so often, a full clean-out keeps the floor from building up under the fresh bedding.

Stock up before the wet weather sets in, and keep one bale ready for the stall that needs fresh shavings most.
