Keep your sprayer or plumbing connected with a molded polypropylene fitting made for agricultural work. One end is a 1 inch male pipe thread that screws into a threaded port. The other is a 1 inch hose barb that holds a hose. That gives you a clean change from threads to hose without buying a separate adapter.

Polypropylene is a lightweight plastic that resists a wide range of chemicals, so it holds up to the mixes sprayers run through, and it won't rust the way a metal fitting can. It is a practical choice for a fitting you may need to swap out after a season of hard use.

Highlights

  • 1 inch male pipe thread on one end
  • 1 inch hose barb on the other
  • Polypropylene resists many spray chemicals
  • Lightweight plastic that won't rust
  • Quick swap for a cracked or leaking fitting
  • For sprayer plumbing and farm water lines

What it's for

A hose barb is the simplest way to put a hose on a threaded fitting. The barbs push into the inside of the hose, and a clamp squeezes the hose tight against them. Wherever a sprayer, pump or water line changes from threads to hose, a fitting like this makes that change.

It is a good fit for sprayer tank outlets, pump plumbing, lawn spray rigs and farm water hookups where a threaded port needs a hose. Plastic also suits wet places, since it won't corrode the way a bare metal fitting can.

It suits a sprayer owner replacing a worn fitting, a farm crew rebuilding a pump line, or a homeowner matching threads on a yard spray rig. Keep a spare on the shelf, since a small fitting can stop a whole job when it fails.

How to use it

  1. Wrap the male threads with thread-sealing tape made for plastic, wrapping in the direction the threads tighten.
  2. Thread the fitting into the port by hand first, then snug it a quarter turn with a wrench. Plastic threads strip when you overtighten them.
  3. Push the hose fully over the barb, then tighten a hose clamp over the hose at the barb.
  4. Run clean water and check every joint for drips before you put chemical in the system.

Good to know

  • Always clamp the hose. A barb alone can let the hose blow off under pressure, so a clamp on every hose connection keeps the spray where it belongs.
  • Check compatibility first. Before you run a new product through the line, make sure it is compatible with polypropylene.
  • Keep it out of the sun. Long exposure to sunlight and hot water makes plastic brittle, so don't leave it baking on a fence rail.
  • Replace it when it cracks. Cracked plastic, chipped threads or a leak that won't stop after snugging are the signs to swap it.

It pairs well with a shutoff valve for the same sprayer lines, hose clamps and sealing tape, so the connection is complete from the start.

Keep it on hand for the next sprayer or plumbing repair.
