For dry treatments

Reach for a powder duster when the treatment you need comes in dry form. The Chapin 5000 uses a hand pump and narrow poly tube to direct dust onto plant surfaces. It suits focused work around rose beds, vegetable rows, fruit trees, or nursery stock, where a large sprayer would be awkward. The tank holds 16 ounces of powder. That capacity is useful for a set of small jobs without carrying a bulky hopper through the garden.

Fill and check the tank

A wide opening makes loading simpler and gives you room to remove powder that has settled around the mouth. The translucent tank lets you see how much material remains, so you can plan a refill before reaching the end of a row. Keep the fill clean. A spilled blend or a scoop used for a different material can contaminate the product and make the next application uncertain.

Aim at the target area

The single-action plunger sends powder through the poly tube when you work the pump. This hand control helps with plant-by-plant treatment, edging work, or a small patch that needs attention without wetting nearby surfaces. Move steadily and keep the nozzle close enough to place the dust where it belongs. Avoid pumping into the wind or toward people, pets, water, or plants that are outside the intended treatment area.

Choose the right material

This tool is made for dry pesticide and fungicide powders. It is not a liquid sprayer, and a wettable powder mixed in water is a different job. Match the duster to the formulation and use directions of the material you plan to apply. Do not add liquids to the tank or use a powder that is not intended for dust application. The poly tank is compatible with most fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides, but the duster should be reserved for the product and application method you have selected.

Keep control close

A hand duster helps with detail work where a measured, localized application makes more sense than treating a broad area. Work along the plants that need attention, stop to check placement, and avoid excess dust on blooms or neighboring foliage. The tool is light enough to carry between plantings, and its straightforward pump action keeps the task simple. After use, empty remaining material according to its directions and clean the duster before storing it for the next garden job.
