Thrush can turn a sound hoof into a sore one in a hurry, so the treatment should be quick to reach for. Kopertox is a water-resistant copper naphthenate liquid made for thrush in horses and ponies. You paint it onto the affected hoof and leave it uncovered, so there is no bandage to pack, change or lose when the horse goes back to work.
The formula is 37.5% w/w copper naphthenate, and the water-resistant base holds up in wet weather and daily turnout. That matters in the Panhandle, where wet ground and humid barns keep feet damp for much of the year. Clean the hoof, apply the liquid with a narrow brush and let the horse get on with his day.

Why choose a liquid for thrush
Thrush lives in the dark, damp grooves of the frog, and a dressing can't reach into those clefts the way a brushed-on liquid can. A bandage also traps mud and moisture against the foot, which is the last thing a thrush-prone hoof needs. A water-resistant liquid you brush on directly keeps the treatment right where the problem is.
It suits the owner who picks feet every morning, the barn that keeps several horses on the same wet ground, and the trail rider who spots trouble on a long ride and wants a fix already in the kit.

How to use it
Start with a clean hoof, because the treatment goes on tissue you have already cleared. Work through these steps each day:
- Shake well before use, and remove the foil seal before the first use.
- Clean the hoof thoroughly and remove debris and necrotic material before application.
- Apply daily to the affected hoof with a narrow paint brush, about 1 inch wide, until fully healed.
- Keep excess product off the hair. Contact can cause some hair loss, and product should never get into feed.
- Store at controlled room temperature, 15 to 30 degrees C (59 to 86 degrees F), with the container tightly closed when not in use.
Good to know
- Pick the feet every day. A clean, dry hoof is the easiest place to catch thrush early.
- Keep the stall dry and the bedding clean. Wet, dirty footing is where thrush takes hold.
- Keep the treatment with your hoof pick and brush so it is ready the day you need it.
- The mixture is combustible, so keep it away from heat, sparks and open flame, and use it in a well-ventilated space.
If thrush isn't clearing up as the days go by, or the foot looks worse, call your veterinarian for a look.
