Stiff joints slow a dog down. The one that used to meet you at the gate starts taking the porch steps one at a time, and it is hard to watch. These liver-flavored chewables give you a vet-guided option for short-term relief. Each chewable carries 300 mg of aspirin, and the liver flavor is built to be easy for dogs to take.

This is short-course medicine, not a daily habit. The directions limit use to three days in a row. If your dog is still sore after a three-day course, the next step is a call to your vet, not another round from the shelf. It is for adult dogs over 50 lbs. Puppies under one year old, dogs under 50 lbs and any species other than dogs are not for this product.

Highlights

  • Liver flavor that is easy for dogs to take
  • 300 mg of aspirin in every chewable
  • Breaks or crushes into food for a picky eater
  • Built for short courses of three days in a row
  • Temporary relief of pain and inflammation tied to arthritis and joint problems

What it's for

Aspirin belongs to the anti-inflammatory family, and vets have long used it for short stretches of joint discomfort. That is the job here: a short, vet-directed course for a dog whose joints are sore for a while. It is not a permanent fix for a dog that is stiff every morning, and that conversation belongs with your vet.

A chewable beats a bitter powder for most dogs. The dose is set by body weight, so the scale matters more than the tablet count, and a chewable makes it simple to give the right amount with a treat.

It suits an adult dog over 50 lbs with arthritis or joint problems whose vet has okayed a short course. Think of it as a bridge while the vet works out the longer plan.

How to use it

Check with your vet before the first dose. Then dose by body weight and give it with food.

  1. Dose by body weight every 12 hours: 50 to 74 lbs, 1 tablet; 75 to 99 lbs, 1 1/2 tablets; 100 lbs and over, 2 tablets.
  2. Give it with food, no more than 30 minutes after your dog has eaten at least half its normal daily amount.
  3. Do not use for more than 3 days in a row.
  4. Break or crush the chewable into food or a treat if that is what gets it down. If your dog eats only part of the bowl, do not re-dose.
  5. Store in a cool, dry place and keep it below 86 degrees F.

Weigh your dog before you measure, since a few pounds change the dose.

Good to know

  • Time the dose to a real meal. The plan is built around food, so a dose on an empty stomach falls outside the directions.
  • Check every other supplement in the cabinet for aspirin before you combine them. Doubling up on the same active ingredient is how a short course turns into a problem.
  • If the three-day course does not leave your dog comfortable, call the vet instead of starting another round.

Keep a bottle on the shelf for the damp mornings when an old dog needs a hand getting up. A soft bed and a few steps to the porch make those mornings easier on sore joints.
