More from Patriot

Built for medium to large livestock operations, this plug-in energizer keeps a long fence line hot without a lot of fuss. It puts out 2.0 output joules from 3.0 stored joules and is rated for up to 50 miles of fence or 165 acres, so it fits bigger pastures and more animals on the wire.

The 110 V plug means no batteries to swap. The low-impedance design, LED indicator and robust knob make it easier to set up and check, and multiple mounting options let you place it close to the outlet and the fence. The 3-year warranty includes lightning coverage, which matters in Florida, where thunderstorms roll through on most summer afternoons.

What it's for

An energizer is the heart of the fence. It sends a pulse down the wire, and the animal feels a jolt and learns to respect the line. When the energizer is strong enough for the length of fence and the number of animals, the fence keeps working through the season. When it's too weak, the stock start testing the wire, and the fence fails at the worst time.

This model suits the medium and large operation: a long perimeter, rotational pasture, or a herd that needs a fence that keeps working on a hot, dry day. A plug-in charger is the right choice wherever a 110 V outlet sits near the fence, because it runs without battery swaps and without trips to recharge one.

It's also a sensible pick for a barn lot fence that runs off the same outlet as your shop, where you want the energizer on the wall and the wire on the posts.

How to use it

  1. Mount the energizer where the 110 V outlet and the fence run both start, so the lead wire stays short.
  2. Ground the energizer with a proper ground rod system, because a strong charge depends on a good ground.
  3. Plug it in and watch the LED indicator to see that the charger is on.
  4. Walk the fence every week, checking for weeds, branches and worn insulators along the wire.

Keep the outlet and the connections dry, and keep the energizer out of standing water.

Good to know

  • Pair it with a digital fence voltmeter so you can test the fence and the ground system on one walk.
  • Wood post insulators and fence wire round out the fence, so keep a few spares for the next wire that pulls loose.
  • Use the LED indicator on every walk, so a charger that quit overnight doesn't go unnoticed until the stock are through the gate.
