One cubic foot of ShowScape Top Soil for filling low spots and building flowerbeds or in-ground gardens.
Build up the garden bed
Use ShowScape Top Soil where a planting area needs more soil or a low spot needs filling. This mix contains partially composted organic material, screened sand and wood ash. It is intended for leveling low areas, filling holes, and building flowerbeds and gardens. Start with the part of the yard you want to raise, then mark the edges so the new soil stays inside the bed rather than spilling into the lawn. It gives you a defined volume to plan around when you are correcting a small area by hand.
Measure before you buy
One cubic foot covers 12 square feet at a one-inch layer, before any settling. That simple calculation helps with a shallow top-up; a deeper fill needs more material. Measure the length and width of the spot, then multiply by the average depth in feet to estimate cubic feet. For an irregular bed, break the space into rectangles and add their volumes. If you are filling a hole, use its average depth rather than measuring only at the deepest point. These estimates keep a small garden job from turning into guesswork.
Keep topsoil in the right place
Topsoil suits in-ground garden work and lawn patching. It is a poor choice for pots or elevated planters, where heavy garden soil can compact and restrict air and water movement around roots. For a raised bed, topsoil can be one part of a growing medium, but the finished mix also needs to hold water and remain aerated. That distinction matters when you are choosing between a soil for grading or bed-building and a lighter medium for containers. Use this product for the soil-building job it is made for.
Set the bed up for what you will grow
Before adding fertilizer or lime, find out what the existing soil needs. A soil test gives you a better starting point than adding amendments by habit, especially when plants will grow directly in the ground. Keep foot traffic out of the prepared bed where you can; compacted soil limits root growth and water movement. In raised beds, plan for the fill to settle and leave room to top the surface back up after a planting season. The soil surface should finish where you want roots to grow, not where a loose mound first lands.
