Thrush shows up at the frog as black, smelly gunk, and it gets worse in wet footing. Thrush Relief is a copper naphthenate treatment for horses and ponies, used as an aid to treat thrush due to organisms susceptible to copper naphthenate. You paint it on the affected hoof, and the water-resistant protection holds up in wet footing without a bandage.
The routine is simple. Clean the hoof thoroughly, clear out the debris and necrotic material, then paint daily with a narrow brush about an inch wide until the hoof is fully healed.

Why choose a paint-on for thrush
Thrush loves wet, dirty footing, and a bandage gets soaked and filthy in that same footing. A paint-on treatment doesn't need a wrap to stay in place, so there's less to change and less to clean. That's the reason to choose it for a horse in a wet paddock or a muddy field.
Pick it for the horse that lives out in the rain, the barn with a soft paddock, or the horse coming home from a wet trail ride with its feet packed with mud. The brush is the only other tool you need, so keep it with the bottle and use it only for the treatment.

How to use it
Clean the hoof first, then paint it daily until the hoof is fully healed.
- Shake well, and remove the foil seal before first use.
- Clean the hoof thoroughly, removing debris and necrotic material before application.
- Apply daily to affected hooves with a narrow paint brush, about 1 inch wide, until the hoof is fully healed.
- Paint it on thin, and keep runoff off the hair.
Good to know
- Scrub the hoof out before you paint, so the treatment reaches the frog and isn't sitting on packed dirt.
- Thrush gets worse in wet footing, so start treating the day you spot it.
- Pick out the feet daily and keep stalls dry while you're treating, since thrush hangs on in wet, dirty bedding.
- Keep the bottle away from the feed room, because the treatment should not contaminate feed.
