A single-dose, 1 mL killed-virus vaccine for horses, supplied as a refrigerated veterinary biologic.
A single-dose option for a horse vaccination plan
West Nile Innovator is a killed-virus vaccine for horses. The single-dose package is useful when a horse needs its own labeled dose and the stable is coordinating a veterinary vaccination plan. It contains one 1 mL dose in a syringe. Zoetis identifies the product as West Nile Virus Vaccine, Killed Virus, and USDA APHIS lists West Nile Innovator among current equine veterinary biologics. The product is distinct from Zoetis combination vaccines that add Eastern and Western encephalomyelitis, Venezuelan encephalomyelitis, or tetanus components. Check the package name and label before selecting a vaccine so the product matches the horse’s veterinary plan. The Zoetis label indicates the vaccine for healthy horses 10 months of age or older as an aid in preventing viremia caused by West Nile virus. Field safety testing supports use in horses at least 3 months old, but efficacy has not been established in foals younger than 3 months. The label specifies an intramuscular injection of 1 mL using aseptic technique. The package insert specifies two 1 mL doses 3 to 6 weeks apart. For the revaccination frequency, or guidance during stress or likely exposure, consult a veterinarian or Zoetis. This vaccine is intended for veterinary use. The serial number and expiration information belong with the animal’s medical record. The label also says not to mix this vaccine with other products and not to vaccinate within 21 days before slaughter. Keep it refrigerated at 2–8°C. Do not freeze it, leave it in direct sunlight, or expose it for prolonged periods to temperatures above the labeled range. Use the entire contents when first opened. A transient reaction at the injection site may occur. This is a cold-chain item for local pickup, not ordinary parcel delivery. Keep it refrigerated after purchase and coordinate administration with the horse’s veterinary care. The maker’s label is the authority for dose and precautions; this page is a product identification and selection aid, not an individual vaccination recommendation.
