More from Hi-Yield

Atrazine Weed Killer controls both emerged weeds and weeds from seed in established St. Augustinegrass and centipedegrass lawns, so one product handles the weeds you can see and the ones still waiting in the soil.

Its weed list includes henbit, dollarweed, chickweed, clover, sandspur and spurge. It also goes after spurweed, Florida betony and annual bluegrass. The rates are set by square footage, so you can treat one patch or a whole yard without guessing.

Why choose atrazine for a warm-season lawn

Atrazine fits when the weeds are coming from both seed and existing plants. The best results come in early spring or the dormant season, when weeds are small or have not yet emerged.

Common jobs include a pass in early spring before the seedlings show, a clean-up of chickweed and henbit, a fall application for Florida betony in mid to late October, and a summer spot treatment on the odd patch. It suits a homeowner or a lawn crew with an established St. Augustinegrass or centipedegrass yard.

How to use it

Mix with water only, and apply to established lawns at the rates in the table. Use a conventional compressed air garden sprayer with a flat fan tip, and calibrate it. Overdosing can severely injure the turf, and underdosing can miss the weeds.

  1. 100 square feet: 5 teaspoons in at least 1 quart of water.
  2. 500 square feet: 4.3 fluid ounces in at least 1 gallon of water.
  3. 2,000 square feet: 1.1 pints in at least 4 gallons of water.
  4. No more than two treatments a year. Summer use is for spot treatment only.

Rain or watering within two or three days can reduce effectiveness on emerged weeds. Weeds from seed need rainfall or watering within seven to ten days after treatment.

Good to know

  • Use it only on healthy turf that is not under heat or drought stress.
  • Do not use over the root zone of trees, ornamentals or vegetables, and do not apply where drainage would carry it to desirable plants.

Do not apply when temperatures exceed 90 F.

Cautions

KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN

CAUTION: Harmful if swallowed or absorbed through skin. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, or clothing.

Wear long-sleeved shirt, long pants, chemical-resistant gloves and shoes plus socks.

Do not apply this product in a way that will contact any persons or pet, either directly or through drift. Keep people and pets out of the area during application.

Do not allow people or pets to enter the treated area until sprays have dried.

Atrazine can travel (seep or leach) through soil and can enter groundwater which may be used as drinking water. Atrazine has been found in groundwater. Users are advised not to apply Atrazine to sand and loamy sand soils where the water table (groundwater) is close to the surface and where these soils are very permeable, i.e., well-drained.

This pesticide is toxic to aquatic invertebrates. Do not apply directly to water or to areas where surface water is present or to intertidal areas below the mean high water mark. Do not apply when weather conditions favor drift from treated areas.

Do not use near adjacent desirable plants or in greenhouse, or injury may occur. Do not apply under windy conditions.

Get it on the shelf before early spring, when the weeds are small and easy to catch.
