A 16 fl oz chlorothalonil concentrate for listed outdoor garden plants, mixed according to the plant and disease directions.

Protect listed garden plants from fungal disease

Daconil Fungicide Concentrate is a 29.6% chlorothalonil product for fungal diseases named on its label. GardenTech lists vegetables, fruits, flowers, shrubs, trees and ornamentals as use groups. Examples of diseases include powdery mildew, downy mildew, blight, rust, black spot and fruit rot. It is a garden-plant fungicide, not an insecticide. Match the plant and disease to the label before choosing it.

Concentrate for a hand sprayer or tank

The 16-fluid-ounce bottle is a liquid concentrate that is diluted with water before application. GardenTech describes an easy-to-use measuring cap and permits hand-held, hose-end or tank-type sprayers. That format gives a gardener a choice of sprayer for individual plants or a wider garden area. Rates differ by plant, disease and method, so the label table for the intended crop or ornamental is the mixing guide.

Contact protection depends on coverage

Chlorothalonil is a contact fungicide. It works on treated plant surfaces rather than moving systemically through the plant, so even coverage of the labeled foliage is central to its use. The manufacturer advises spraying all sides of the plant and applying at the first sign of disease or preventively when appropriate. New growth and untreated surfaces are not automatically covered. Follow the label’s retreatment and plant-specific instructions.

For gardens, flowers and ornamentals

A concentrate can be useful when several listed plants need treatment and the user can measure and mix carefully. GardenTech lists tomatoes, cucumbers, roses and many other plants, but each plant has its own disease directions and, for edible crops, a preharvest interval. Use it only on the outdoor plants and diseases included on the current label.

A crop and disease are a matched use

A tomato leaf disease and black spot on roses are different treatment situations even when the same bottle is used. The label associates particular diseases with plant groups and supplies their own application schedule. That makes the crop entry more useful than the front label disease list when planning a garden treatment. Edible crops also have crop-specific harvest directions. Home lawns are excluded from this retail concentrate's uses.

Protection follows the sprayed surface

Because the active ingredient remains on contacted surfaces, coverage has a physical meaning: a leaf area the spray does not reach is not protected merely because a nearby leaf was treated. The same applies to growth produced after application. A garden with expanding foliage can present new surfaces between treatments. This explains the preventive role and the need for the specified repeat schedule without suggesting that a higher concentration will replace careful application.

This chemical can contaminate surface water through spray drift. Under some conditions it may also have high potential for runoff into surface water for several days to weeks after application; these include poorly draining or wet soils with readily visible slopes toward adjacent surface waters, frequently flooded areas, areas overlaying extremely shallow ground water, areas with infield canals or ditches that drain to surface water, areas not separated from adjacent surface waters with vegetated filter strips and areas overlaying tile draining systems that drain to surface water.
