Weedy grass has a way of crowding into flower beds, around shrubs and along landscape edges. This selective grass killer goes after annual and perennial grasses while leaving the desirable plants you are growing unharmed.

Bermudagrass, crabgrass, foxtails, quackgrass and many other weedy grasses are on the control list. Growth stops soon after application, and the grass turns yellow and dies within one to three weeks.

Highlights

  • Selective: kills weedy grasses without injuring desirable plants
  • Controls bermudagrass, crabgrass, foxtails and quackgrass
  • Concentrate mixes with water for tank or hose-end spraying
  • Works best on young, actively growing grass
  • Listed fruits and vegetables, with a tank sprayer only

Why spot the grass early

Pulling grass by hand leaves roots behind, and mowing only trims the top. A systemic grass killer moves from the leaves and stems down to the roots, and warm sunny weather speeds that movement up.

Younger, actively growing seedlings are the easiest to kill, while older, established grass may need a repeat application. It fits the homeowner with grass in the shrub bed and the gardener with grass in a flower border.

How to use it

Mix for the sprayer you have, and read and follow label directions before you start.

  1. Tank sprayer: mix 1 fluid ounce of concentrate and 1 fluid ounce of oil concentrate in each gallon of water.
  2. Spray just to wet the weedy grasses. One gallon of spray treats about 1,800 square feet.
  3. Hose-end sprayer: pour 1 fluid ounce of concentrate and 1 fluid ounce of oil concentrate into the bottle for each 1,800 square feet treated. Wash the sprayer after use.
  4. Do not mow or cut off the tops of the weeds before you spray.
  5. Do not apply if rain is expected within one hour. Leave the oil concentrate out when the comfort index (temperature plus humidity) is above 150, to prevent leaf burn on desirable plants.

Keep people and pets out of the area until the spray has dried.

Good to know

Adding oil concentrate can help control grassy weeds, and the directions set the amount. Spray on calm days with the nozzle set low. If spray drifts onto desirable plants, wash the foliage with water right away.

Wear long sleeves, long pants, chemical-resistant gloves made of any waterproof material, protective eyewear, shoes and socks. Wash hands before eating, drinking, chewing gum or using tobacco, and remove contaminated clothing before reuse.

For listed fruits and vegetables, use a tank sprayer only, and observe the minimum number of days from the last application to harvest. Keep it away from sweet corn, which is not listed.

Store the product between 32 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and do not let it freeze. Keep it in its original container, never transfer it to another container, and keep it out of reach of children and animals. Triple rinse the empty container before it goes in the trash or recycling.
