An 8 oz biological fungicide and bactericide concentrate for labeled home-garden disease uses as a foliar spray or soil drench.

A biological option for garden diseases

Monterey Complete Disease Control is a biofungicide and bactericide for plant diseases listed on its label. Its active ingredient is Bacillus amyloliquefaciens strain D747, a beneficial bacterium used to suppress disease-causing fungi and bacteria. It is a biological disease-management product, not a copper fungicide or a conventional contact insecticide.

The stocked 8 oz concentrate

The 8-ounce bottle is a concentrate for the home gardener. The label allows foliar spray or soil drench uses, depending on the plant and disease. A foliar application places the product on listed plant surfaces; a drench delivers it to the root area. This concentrate is different from a ready-to-spray bottle. Select the method and mixing instructions from the label entry for the plant and target disease.

For edible and ornamental plantings

Monterey lists vegetables, fruit trees, ornamental trees, shrubs, lawns, flowers, bedding plants and potted ornamentals as home-garden use groups. That range makes the 8-ounce concentrate useful to a gardener managing diseases across a mixed planting. Specific disease and plant combinations still matter. The label identifies which targets and application methods are covered, and the label permits application up to and including the day of harvest on labeled edible crops.

Fits a prevention-minded garden routine

The manufacturer describes the product as OMRI-listed for organic gardening. Its bacterial active ingredient makes it a different tool from a chlorothalonil or copper fungicide. It can be considered where the label’s disease and plant directions fit and a biological approach is preferred. Airflow, sanitation and sound watering practices remain useful in disease management, but they do not replace the label’s directions for a treatment. Keep the concentrate and its complete label together.

A foliar disease program

For leaves and other labeled above-ground parts, the concentrate is diluted and sprayed to cover the plant surfaces identified in the directions. The label describes preventive application and repeat treatments during conditions favoring disease. This is useful in a mixed garden where susceptible plants continue producing new growth, because a single application does not describe a season-long program. The target disease and plant group determine the relevant schedule.

Root-zone use has a different destination

For a soil drench, the prepared product is delivered to the soil rather than simply wetting the leaves. The label also describes application in planting furrows or transplant holes immediately before planting. Monterey explains that strain D747 colonizes roots and helps prevent establishment of disease-causing fungi and bacteria. This gives the biological product a root-zone role as well as a foliar one. It can be applied up to and including harvest day on its labeled edible crops.

Directions for use

DIRECTIONS FOR USE It is a violation of Federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling. MIXING INSTRUCTIONS This product must be mixed with water and applied as a spray to fruit, flowers and foliage, or as a drench to plant roots. See below for specific mix rate information. Application Rates and Methods: Spray application: For control of powdery mildews, leaf spots, anthracnose, gray mold, and other diseases affecting leaves, flowers, fruit, and other above-ground plant parts of indoor and outdoor potted plants, home garden plants, vegetables, ornamental, fruit and nut trees, tropical plants, shrubs, flowers and bedding plants : Mix 1 teaspoon of product per gallon of water and apply directly to plants using a hand pump sprayer or other suitable spray equipment. Spray just enough to wet all leaves and fruit with minimal run-off or dripping. Total coverage depends on the size of plants to be sprayed and the type of sprayer used. Repeat as needed to maintain disease control, typically every 7 to 10 days. If disease is prevalent or environmental conditions such as high humidity favor disease outbreak, increase the mixing rate to 1 tablespoon per gallon and shorten the interval between sprays to every 3 to 7 days. Drench application: For control of diseases affecting plant roots, tubers, or other parts of plants in contact with soil in the home and home garden: Mix 1 teaspoon of product per gallon of water and apply to the soil by one of the following methods: For Potted Plants (Indoors or Outdoors) • Apply in sufficient water to wet the entire root mass using a watering can or tank-fed watering wand. Do not water plants again until 24 hours after application. Alternatively, use a hand-pump or other sprayer to spray the mixture on the soil surface in each pot, then immediately apply sufficient water to move the product into the roots. • Drench the roots of transplants with approximately 4 fluid ounces of the mixture immediately before transplanting into pots or garden soil. Allow to soak into the root ball before transplanting. For Outdoor-Grown Plants: • Use a watering can or sprayer to drench the soil in the planting furrow or transplant hole immediately before planting or transplanting. The amount of water required will depend on the size of the hole or length of furrow. • Alternatively, apply in the first watering after planting or transplanting, either by mixing directly int o the water at the rate indicated above, or by spraying onto the soil surface at the base of each plant and immediately watering in with a watering can, hose, sprinkler, or other watering device. This product can be applied up to and including the day of harvest. For application to lawns and other grass areas: Mix 1 teaspoon of product per gallon of water and apply as a fine spray to the surface of the lawn or grass area. Total amount of mix required will depend on the type of sprayer used and area to be covered, but typically 2 to 5 gallons of spray mix may be required per 1,000 square feet of lawn. This product can be “watered in” for control of soilborne root and crown diseases by thorough watering immediately after application either with sprinklers or by spraying just before or during light rain.
