Flies build fast once the weather turns, especially anywhere manure, wet feed and stock are packed together. The Fly Terminator Pro is a trap that works without babysitting. Add water to the fill line, let the attractant do its work, and the filth-breeding flies that come to the jug end up in it.

It's a reusable gallon jug, so when it fills you dump it, refill the attractant and set it back out. The plastic top won't rust when it sits in corrosive environments. It catches house flies, blow flies, flesh flies, blue and green bottle flies, dump flies and dung flies, and it comes with two 30 gm water-soluble attractant pouches to get started.

Why a reusable jug trap pays off

A disposable trap is handy for a quick fix, but a reusable jug pays off over a long fly season. You refill and reuse it, so the trap keeps working through the stretch when flies are heaviest, and you aren't buying a new one every time the crowd shows up.

It suits a farm with a steady fly problem around stock, the operator who wants a trap they can leave hanging through the season, and the family with chickens or goats who wants flies drawn away from the pens. Hang it where flies gather near manure and wet spots, and keep it out of the paths you walk every day.

How to use it

1. Remove the top of the trap.
2. Drop in the attractant pods without opening them, then add one-half gallon of clean water to the fill line to activate them.
3. Securely replace the top, and make sure the center baffle is snapped into the open position.
4. Agitate lightly to disperse the attractant.
5. Hang the trap from its handle or tab outdoors, or set it on the ground, in a sunny spot where flies are active and odors won't be a problem.
6. Keep the trap within four feet of the ground. In hot weather, place it in shade.
7. Agitate the contents now and then, add water as needed to keep the fluid at the fill line, and rebait when the trap is full or the contents dry out.

Wash your hands with soap and water after handling.

Good to know

• A full jug gets heavy, so empty it carefully before you lift it. Deposit the spent contents in the trash, and keep them off your hands and clothing.
• Keep a refill of attractant on hand, since the trap can be rinsed and refilled with replacement attractant.
• Store unused pouches in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place out of reach of pets and livestock.
• Hang the jug where it's easy to check and reach when you need to refill it.
