Flies around a barn or coop are more than a nuisance. Once warm weather arrives, the numbers build fast, and filth-breeding flies gather wherever animals are kept. This trap hangs out at the edge of the yard and draws them away with a built-in attractant, so the catching happens while you go about your chores.
There's no spraying and no measuring. Add water to the fill line and the built-in attractant goes to work. When the trap is full, drop the whole thing in the trash and hang a fresh one. This giant version holds up to 20,000 flies, so one trap can work through a busy stretch before it needs to come down.
Highlights
- Built-in attractant draws flies in
- Catches house, blow, flesh, bottle, dump and dung flies
- Holds up to 20,000 flies
- Works around dairy and horse barns, pig barns, chicken coops and backyards
- Toss it when full and hang a fresh one
What it's for
Disposable traps skip the washing and refilling that reusable traps need. When the catch is full, the whole unit goes in the trash, and you're back to work in a minute. That's a practical choice for a busy operation or a family property where nobody wants to clean a fly trap on a Saturday.
Traps work best at the edge of the action, around the perimeter of a barn, coop or yard, rather than right at a doorway or a seating area where people gather. The attractant has an odor, so keep traps out of the spots where you eat or sit. A trap in the right place does its job without getting in your way.

How to use it
- Cut the film on top along the dotted line inside the black rim, pull the top up by its tab until it snaps into place, fill the trap to the fill line with clean water and agitate lightly.
- Hang it outdoors in a sunlit spot with lots of flies, within four feet of the ground, where the odor won't bother anyone. In hot weather above 90 degrees, move it to shade.
- Set traps out at the first sign of flies so you catch the early wave before it builds.
- Place traps 30 feet or more from the house and from the animals, so flies are drawn away from both. When the trap is full or the contents dry out, push the top down to close it, drop it in the trash and hang a fresh one. Wash your hands with soap and water after handling.
Hang traps where children and pets can't get into them, and out of reach of livestock.
Good to know
- Keep a spare on hand so a full trap comes down and a fresh one goes up on the same trip.
- Flies breed in wet manure, spilled feed and decaying matter. Cleaning those up and keeping bedding dry cuts down on the flies a trap has to catch.
- Pair the outdoor traps with a fly bait strip inside the barn, so you cover both the outside and the inside.
- Dairy, horse, pig and chicken areas all draw flies, so give each one its own trap, set 30 feet or more away from the animals.
