Why a snap trap belongs in the feed room

A snap trap works with the way mice already move. They travel along walls, so a trap set flush against a wall sits right in their path. That is why the baited end goes against the wall.

Snap traps suit places where you don't want loose bait sitting out, such as a feed room or a tack room. Keep feed in sealed bins, since a trap works best when mice have less to eat.

How to use it

1. Release the arm bar from the staple and move it to the back of the trap so it hangs over the back.
2. Put a small amount of high-protein bait, such as peanut butter, hazelnut spread or bacon, on the yellow plastic pedal. Use a Q-tip or toothpick so your scent stays off the trap.
3. Pull the kill bar back and hold it with your thumb.
4. Place the arm bar over the kill bar and secure it under the plastic pedal. The firm side is easier to set but trips less easily, and the sensitive side is harder to set but trips easily.
5. Set the trap where you have seen rodent activity, with the baited end flush against the wall. For more coverage, place traps 2 to 3 feet apart.
6. After a catch, lift the kill bar to dispose of the mouse, then reuse the trap or throw it away.

Keep children and pets away from a set trap. Snap traps close fast, so set them with care.

• Refresh the bait when it dries out or gets eaten, so the pedal keeps its pull.
